Obituary for Russell Eugene "Ooge" Crump

Russell Eugene Crump
1929-2019
On the evening of July 11, 2019, Russell Eugene Crump went to be with his Heavenly Father.
He was born in Catlettsburg, Kentucky June 20, 1929 to the late Russell M. and Maude Rice Crump. The love of his life, Colette James Crump and their sons, Preston Crump and Cameron Crump also preceded him in death.
After graduating from Thomas R. Brown High School in 1948, he began working at Allied Chemical, from which he would retire in 1994. In 1950, he would leave his career to enlist in the United States Army, serving honorably, defending his country in the Korean War and receiving a Purple Heart. For those who knew him, he was “Ooge” and to his grandchildren he was “Poppy”, he loved his family and would do anything for them, and he loved the Lord even more. Throughout his life, he never lost his smile. He was a long time member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory, are his children, Shawn and his wife Sandy Crump, of Ashland; Sharla and her husband Richard Peoples, of Ashland; five Grandchildren, Daniel (Jennifer) Crump, of Ashland, Kaylee(Odis) Sturgill, of Catlettsburg, Carson Johnson, of Ashland, Stacy Crump, of Ashland, Jennifer (Robert) Goodwin, of Ashland; and six Great-Grandchildren Delanie, Darcie, Aubrie, Hudson, Konner and Braydon; and daughter in law Vicky Crump, of Ashland.
Also preceding in death was his sister Phyllis Crump, and son in law Grant Johnson.
A funeral service honoring his life will be held, at 7 PM, Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the Neal Funeral Home, 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg. Pastor Keith Menshouse will officiate. Visiting hours will be from 5 PM until Service Time. Graveside services will be at 10 AM, Wednesday, July 17, at the Catlettsburg Cemetery, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and Post 93 of Kenova, WV.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101; or Military Order of Purple Heart, 640 4th Avenue #140, Huntington, WV, 25701.
