1933-2019

Roger Lee Kitchen of Catlettsburg, Kentucky traveled home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday March 12, 2019 at the age of 85. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Roger was born to Reverend Fred and Effie Kitchen on May 15, 1933 in Stockdale, Ohio. He graduated from Thomas R. Brown High School in Catlettsburg, KY, with the class of 1951. Roger married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Fowler on June 17th 1951. They were blessed with three children of their own and later adopted two of their grandchildren.
Roger loved to sing in the choir and attend church at Centenary United Methodist Church where he and Betty were long time members. He was also in a gospel quartet with Betty named The Gate City Four. Roger was a talented basketball player who loved being a part of a team. During his professional life Roger worked for Mansbach Metal before becoming co-owner and lead mechanic of K & A Automotive. Roger enjoyed spending time with his family and relaxing on his front porch. He was an avid card player, bowler, carpenter and car enthusiast. Roger was also a dedicated sports fan and loved supporting his UK Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds.
Roger is survived by his two daughters Linda Kitchen Christy (husband Michael) of Charleston, SC and Sandra Kitchen Poynter (husband Brent) of Chattanooga, TN and son Roger Lee Kitchen II (wife Dawn) of Lexington, KY and adopted grandchildren Katie and Cody Kitchen of Kentucky. His grandchildren; Kimberly Christy Huttner, Jennifer Christy Barnette, Matthew Christy and Jessica Christy Schleppegrell all of Charleston, SC, Ryan Poynter of Honolulu, HI and Alexis and Charlie Kitchen of Lexington, KY. His great grandchildren; Aiden Eckles, Taylor Feller, Joseph Barnette, Jenna Barnette, and Jillian Barnette all of Charleston, SC. His sisters Loretta Kitchen Stuart and Juanita Kitchen Hatfield both of Ashland, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, two brothers, Fred and Louie Kitchen and grandson Christopher Burch.
Services will be held at Neal Kilgore-Collier Funeral Home, 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg, KY. Visitation will be on Friday, March 15, beginning at 11 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Catlettsburg Cemetery following the service.
