1935 – 2019
Amos Jay VanHoose, 83, of Catlettsburg, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. VanHoose was born May 26, 1935 in Boyd County, KY to the late Freelan and Lucille Kirk VanHoose. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert “Bob” VanHoose, Billy Joe “B.J.” VanHoose, and sister, Donna Ruth VanHoose.
Jay was a graduate of Boyd County High School, served his country honorably in the US Army, and retired in 1997 from Columbia Gas where he was a truck driver. He enjoyed farming and gardening. Jay was a member of Greenhills Masonic Lodge and Cannonsburg Trinity United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish memories is his adoring wife of 58 years, Sue Menshouse VanHoose, their children, Connie Kennedy, her husband Tom, of Milton, WV and Brian VanHoose, his wife Tonya, of Catlettsburg, grandchildren, Blake VanHoose, Audrey VanHoose, and Randi Kennedy. Also surviving are brothers, Jim VanHoose (Carla) and Ray VanHoose (Mary), both of Ashland.
The VanHoose Family would like to express their appreciation to their care giver Michele Becker.
Jay will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral service to honor Mr. VanHoose will be at 1:00pm, Wednesday May 22, 2019, at Neal Funeral Home, 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg. Pastor Tyler Brumfield will officiate. Final resting place in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East. Military Honors will be presented by Kenova Post 93 and the US Army. Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00pm until 8:00pm with Masonic Services at 7:00pm at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cannonsburg Trinity United Methodist Church, 11620 Midland Trail Road, Ashland, KY 41102 or Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101.
